Arcimoto Pulse
The Arcimoto Pulse is the latest, and possibly quirkiest, addition to the limited fleet of electric vehicles available to U.S. buyers.
Planned for production in Eugene, Oregon – with deliveries beginning in late 2010 – the Pulse is available for pre-order at under $20,000.
In addition, federal and state tax credits are available to buyers to lower the price as well.
The vehicle will run on lead-acid batteries, which contributes to the lower cost, charging on 110V in 6-8 hours and delivers a range of 50-100 miles.
The federal government offers a $10% tax credit on the Pulse for a maximum of $2,500.
The Pulse is planned for production in Eugene, Oregon and deliveries will start in late 2010.
The three-wheeled, two passenger vehicle will be driven by a DC motor delivering 80 lb-ft of torque with a top speed of 55 mph and can be plugged into a normal household outlet.
According to the Arcimoto website, the average US driver will save approximately $1000 per year in fuel costs, while dramatically reducing emissions.
Although the vehicle may look fragile, it comes equipped with g-force reducing crumple zones and a fully fitted roll cage to preserve the cabin in the case of a rollover.
Today, combustion engines are becoming increasingly seen as an out-date and dirty technology. Electric drive not only saves fuel and reduces emissions, but the drive-train also has fewer parts resulting in less maintenance work.
The Arcimoto Pulse proves that going green doesn’t have to be expensive.
