The Gulf Restoration Network (GRN) is a network of group sand individuals committed to empowering people to protect and restore the natural resources of the Gulf of Mexico. The GRN was formed in 1994 to raise awareness of environmental issues in Gulf States and to increase communication and coordination of member activities across the region. They play a pivotal role in providing its members and partners with the technical information, Gulf-wide networking opportunities, and communication that empowers local communities to successfully address the environmental threats that they face.
The GRN’s vision is that the Gulf of Mexico will continue to be a natural, economic, and recreational resource that is central to the culture and heritage of five states and three nations; and that the people of the region will be stewards of this vital but imperiled treasure, and they will assume the responsibility of returning the Gulf to its previous splendor.
The GRN team also pursues campaigns on priority issues affecting the entire Gulf region, including Natural Storm Defenses, the Dead Zone, Healthy Waters, Save our Cypress, Species at Risk, Wetland Protection, Gulf Energy, and Sustainable Fisheries.
Natural Storm Defenses
Protecting and restoring the coastal wetlands and barrier islands that form natural barriers to flooding, and storm surge.
The Dead Zone
Working with partners throughout the Mississippi River Basin to ensure that there are protective policies in place to reduce the pollution that causes the Dead Zone to form in the Gulf of Mexico every summer.
Healthy Waters
Protecting and restoring waters throughout the Gulf of Mexico that are critical to recreation, fisheries, wildlife habitat, and drinking water.
Save Our Cypress
Saving our cypress forests from being clear-cut for cypress mulch.
Species At Risk
Safeguarding the habitat of threatened and endangered species throughout the Gulf region.
Wetland Protection
Protecting wetlands from reckless development, destructive logging practices and harmful U.S. Army Corps of Engineers policies.
Gulf Energy
Protecting the natural resources of the Gulf Region from the myriad effects and impacts of the oil & gas industry.
